We love to mention and quote Ricardo, Smith and the old so called economic smart guys. They all spoke for the elites and monied class. Mouth pieces. Over quoted and irrelevant as far as I'm concerned. Our economics is sooooo far removed from these guys.
No, libertarians, our economic system is completely different than back in the gold standard days. Whether we like it or not. Open your minds and quit living in the past.
The hedge fund, bankers, and P.E. guys made and still are making gobs of money in China. And that's all they care about .
It's clear that progressive parenting is the real problem with the woman who paid her kid to read a book. If she takes her phone away her daughter will stare at her hatefully? Oh gee, I'm sure THAT'S the first time that ever happened in human history! Bitch needs to grow some labia and be a real mom. Send her kid to summer camp for a week where they don't allow phones. Kids come back super-charged and far more competent than when they arrived. It's funny that conservative parents' kids are overall happier than liberal kids, who report far worse mental health problems (young liberal girls/women having the lowest happiness levels of all, and the highest depression rates). Be an adult and take away the phone or set limits and strictly monitor how much time they spend. Stop being such pussies!
The first of seven planks in a platform in the interests of ordinary working- and middle-class American families:
First, a wage-price equalization tax or tariff on all imported goods and services that are produced in countries with wage-rates much lower than ours, this being the only way to level the playing field on which American workers are expected to compete. In defense of such a tax we shall argue that the theory of free trade never included free mobility of capital across international boundaries; that Adam Smith specifically opposed direct investment in foreign countries as detrimental to the wealth of a nation; that David Ricardo never imagined a world of high- and low-wage countries in which wage arbitrage would be the major motive for engaging in trade; and, last but not least, that all of the other advantages of trade that Ricardo identified or that are commonly associated with his name would continue to exist, including those arising from differences of climate, access to natural resources, industrial specialization, or the particular talents of the people living in different countries around the world.
The development of a Chinese centered trading block was probably inevitable but the US certainly poured gas on the fire by stealing everyone's stuff. After stealing Russian state assets which was stupid enough, they went on to steal the property of private citizens. You don't have to be a genius to see where this leads if you a a neutral or even a situational ally like KSA or India. And it was the US sanctions on Russia an attempts to enforce them on third parties that blew up the international financial system, not anything China did. Stealing Maduro's plane just reminded everyone. It was for an alleged violation of American law but Maduro is The dictator of Venezuela. Won't make a difference in Venezuela's policy but others are watching. Oh and another G7 member arresting Durov didn't help.
Actually, the USSR (also?) paid PepsiCo with military ships and submarines, which PepsiCo sold for scrap.
